The informative value of the ultrasonic testing is significantly influenced by the quality of the signal. Ultrasonic probes are the source for a good signal quality; in case the probes are not perfectly suitable for the testing task, a good evaluation technology cannot improve the test performance decisively. For highest test requirements specially designed probes have to be used.

Characterization /measuring

Next to the specification it is decisive to check, whether a probe fulfills the requirements. At modern measurement places performance data are determined automatically. The sound field geometry is, for example, measured and documented that way. Based on these results detailed specifications can be given for adjusting mechanical and electrical parameters for the test.
